Soul on Deck

"Ours is not the task of fixing the entire world all at once, but of stretching out to mend the part of the world that is within our reach...

One of the most calming and powerful actions you can do to intervene in a stormy world is to stand up and show your soul. A soul on deck shines like gold in dark times... struggling souls catch light from other souls who are fully lit and willing to show it."

I'm down!

Hey Azul, I would love to backpack the lost coast with you! I'm taking a lot of summer classes though (chemistry and biology, both sessions) and it won't be too easy for me to miss them. So for me, the week before fall quarter starts would be good. I end summer session on September 12th and start the 22nd. I'm pretty sure this date would be OK for quarter system people. let me know what you think!

Belizers!

Homies! I miss you so effing much! I was just looking at pics from the trip and got all nostalgic...we really need a reunion soon! So I would really like to make a trip up to Humboldt/Lost Coast some time this summer. What are everyone's summer plans? Can we block out like a week for eachother to get together and reunite and chill in the forest? I'm taking a couple summer classes, but I would be more than down to ditch them and see you guys!

Hello you beauiful people! Just trying out this posting thing on the blogging thing. I miss you all and the forest terribly and I think about you everyday since our trip. I hope everybody is doing well. Let me know what you think about the pictures/videos. Sorry about the wierd noise throughout the videos, it's the camera focusing and I don't know how to fix it.

Check out the long awaited Can Can Videos

I actually haven't checked them out yet but I believe she's got pics and a couple videos or more. We lost one of my botfly extractions, oh well, gee wiz, I don't know how much of those I want to relive anyway. I'm going to check them out after I post them though. So here they are:

I hope the Whole Earth Festival was as wonderful and beautiful as it sounds and know that I would, without a doubt had been there if it had not been for the minor formality of being all the way out here on the east coast. Had a good mother's day though and loved the time spent with the most special person in my life that I've been living without for quite a while.
Much love

Whole Earth Festival THIS WEEKEND!

Hello, beautiful people! I hope everyone is doing beautifully.

Just to remind everyone, the Whole Earth Festival is happening in Davis this fri/sat/sun, and anyone interested is welcome to camp out at my dome. I wil be here all of Friday and Sunday, but have a field trip Saturday for a California plant communities class (I should be back in the early evening), and there will certainly be things to do during the day regardless of my absence. Friday evening there will be poi spinning (aka fire dancing), and sunday there is the sustainable circus performance. There are a number of different music/dance performances, + booths of arts/crafts/etc that will be up all weekend, and if nothing else, it's a great chance to chill out and people-watch.

Feel free to contact me, I'd love to hear from you!
831.227.3167

It looks as though Indie and Gibnut will be headed up on Friday evening, and I hope I get to see more of you!

ps. if you do come, be prepared for central valley heat... it's been cooking up here as of late.

Hey Giddens, I'm stoked you love that book too. It's definitely one of my favorites, it feels like you're able to go on this epic journey along with her. I love how Elizabeth can relate to anybody and have a really good time meeting new people, her story is sooo heart wrenching and beautiful. Yeah, I'm back east trying to find a job that will actually rake in the big bucks for me, it's been quite a process. In the mean time I'm serving, making enough to get by, visiting/living with my sister, seeing/visiting family and friends and doing my best to make the best out of this limbo period I'm in. How are u, how's sc, the weather, school, and life and stuff. I miss you girls like the dickens and think about you often!

Remember "Greening the Deser"

Remember Sibun talking about this, it incorporates things we learned throughout the course and much from our darling last stay at BARC. Check this killer video out!

"Eat Pray Love"

One of the most beautiful books I've read, it speaks of one great adventure!

"I love you, I will never leave you, I will always take care of you. Those were the first words I ever wrote in that private notebook of mine, which I would carry with me from that moment forth, turning back to it many times over the next two years, always asking for help--and finding it even when I was most deadly sad or afraid. And that notebook, steeped through with that promise of love, was quite simply the only reason I survived the next years of my life"

WOW!!! That video!

Ceiba that video is out of this world, really, it's in the world of the tropics that took place once on earth with last year's tribe. How did you discover this gem? I love it soooo much and now can show family and friends a real life recording of life down in our most beloved memory bank. I hope all are well, with all the sincerity my heart can manage, I miss you all and hope that I can once again get close to you folks or folks who are just like you all.
Much love
I have great updates on where I am in the story of life but there will be a right time soon to sit down and write it. I'll let you all know how and where I am!

CHECK IT OUT!!!!!!!

http://youtube.com/watch?v=YLs5Ldbb3zU

This is the video made by the guy in last year's program...okay, so it isn't us, but the places and the people haven't changed!

I love you all and I miss you... I have to trust myself, for often when I try to remember what we experienced I have a hard time convincing my now-body that it actually happened... and only a month ago!(???) Anyway, I look forward to having time to let everyone know what life has got swirling around my ankles and between my ears... for now I am busy shuffling around the contents of my days and trying to identify and satisfy my needs amidst this familiar but astoundingly foreign environment.

and the quote I am sitting on today...

So! My crappy pictures are finally on the world wide web for all to see!

The Master Cleanse was pretty good. I only did it for two days, but went through an entire thing of maple syrup! It's nice because its all you eat (or drink), but you still get sugars and minerals for energy, so it's not as bad as a fast. I've never gone an entire day without eating anything solid, so the first day was a challenge for me, but I want to do it again, only this time for like 5 days. Here's the exact recipe: fresh squeezed lemon or lime juice, grade B maple syrup, and as much cayenne pepper as you can stand. I've heard a 1-1 ratio of lemon juice to syrup, but I've also heard 2-1, so I just do whatever sounds/tastes good. I've also heard different amounts for what a single serving is, so I would just drink whatever sufficiently filled me up. Basically, 4 Tblsp lemon juice to 2-4 Tblsp syrup is about one serving (you like how this is the EXACT recipe?), and I would drink 4-6 of those per day. Then drink a little detox tea that has some good herbs in it (I recommend Triple Leaf Detox tea) and a laxative tea (to keep your poops moving and get those toxins out!).

The Tats are good, still on my feet, and seem like they want to stay there forever

OMG I almost forgot to tell a ridiculous story! So, I'm workin at Falafel last night, and this guy comes in that looks EXACTLY like Jimmy! I take his order, ask him if its for here or to go, and get his name - Jaime, pronounced Highmae - a little weird. I got his drink and asked him where he was from (because he looked Belizean) and he said Mexico. I told him that I met someone in Belize that looks exactly like him (just to see what he would say), and he responded with "Oh, we're good people"... Weird. It can't be Jimmy, but how scary would that be if he had this alter-Jaime-ego?!?!
Another wierd story, so those beautiful orange and black seeds that we found in the Bladen that King helped me drill through and string VANISHED along with the solidarity ring that King made! Literally, that beautiful necklace was there when I went to sleep and gone when I woke up in the morning, and it has yet to be found! The ring was a little big, so its a little more understandable that it might have just slipped off. But either way, two of my most treasured possessions from Belize, two pieces of jewelry, both made of natural things, both made by King, both having an incredible postive energetic charge, have dissapeared from my life, at least for now. I wonder where they'll turn up...

I love you all and miss you more than anything. Your pictures are fantastic!

Missing you

Hello everyone, Hope you all are doing great, I miss you all so much its crazy. I had a dream about you guys last night that I was about to go on the program all over again and I was freaking out about it, when I woke up I wished it was real. Hope everyone is having a good spring. It's still cold and rainy in Ashland so I need to come South down your way. I want to try and see you all soon, or you could come up here:) Love you all

speaking of which, you all are invited to the Whole Earth Festival! May 9th, 10th, and 11th up (down? sideways?) here in Davis. It is a fantastic event with lots of music, dancing, fire spinning, a sustainable circus, and booths of arts, crafts, and other goodies. Anyone interested is welcome to camp out at the Domes (my co-op... I will add pictures of where I live and last year's festival on picassa) for as long a you would like to stay... and I will feed you! Poo Talk!!!

Azul, how you doin sweet thang! Did you love Caye Calker? How's your adjustment back going? Matt and I drove by your bustling, malling town of Roseville on our way to Tahoe last weekend and I was thinking about you! Miss you girl! I was wondering how that cleanse worked or is working for you, mine didn't work well at all, if you already didn't see my last blog spot. Let me know, I'm gonna try something else but not until I know that it works, and I don't waste a handful of bucks on it, yah know!
Love yah, and miss yah

DUDE!

im doing that cleanse too!!!! well when i get back... they do not have maple syrup in Ireland..... so we shall do it together! or something like that...

Sunday, March 23, 2008

Damn Gib, that video was ballin'! Can you show me how to make videos like that?? How is the land of the Ire?
Heidi Ho, I miss you soooo! I cannot believe you were in SF, with your bf, and your family, and J Gid and Marni marn saw you, and I didn't! I am so jealous! How are things in your beloved Humboldt? The tattoos are great - I got in the water as soon as I got to Caye Caulker, and everything was fine, no issues with salt water or sun burns.
Caye Caulker was pretty sweet - really touristy, no fish or coral right off the beach like at Tobacco Caye, and it rained for two of the 4 days I was there - but it was still nice to not have to face Western civilization for that much longer :)
My poos have been alright, I'm doing a Master Cleanse today, which involves fresh lemon juice, grade B maple syrup, and cayenne pepper. Hopefully it works!
I really want to see all of your pictures, have you put them on Picassa yet? My pictures kinda suck, a few of them turned out, but disposable cameras are always iffy.
I'm diggin the blog thing, and I want to here about all of your lives, so keep updating PLEASE!
I love love love you and miss you with all of my heart. When can we go back to Belize?

Natural History anyone?

I have a Natural History Moment that I need to share with you ALL. DOLPHINS in SANTA CRUZ and a whole school of them. I was walking with my friend on West Cliff and i see what i think are DOLPHINS...and i have to look a couple of times to be like HOLY SHIT Dolphins sooo close to the shore. It was awesome. J Giddy it reminded me of when we saw that first Scarlet Macaw at Cuevas =) I just looked and pointed and told my friend to look. soooooooo gooooooooood!
Hope you all are enjoying the outdoors and the lovely spring weather and having natural history moments. I miss exploring with all of YOU!
Hi my exquisite folk:)
Gibnut, I almost called you halie cuz of just watching your video. I loved it, I love the transport idea of sitting down, looking at a map, drawing where you anticipate being and being brought there in your mind immediately, in a dream state it seems right then and then after arriving it feels like a dream as well.
Has everyone woken up yet from their 2.5 month slumber, I'm feeling a little groggy and been sleeping way too much but loving the time with my sweety!
I tried a cleanse using bentonite clay with psyllium husk, you make a shake and drink it, it supposed to gather garbage and clean you out. All it did was bind me up, AGAIN!!!
I was trying to avoid the poo inspection, Heidi Ho, I don't know if I have. I do know I had weird gut issues when I got back and they subsided, soooooo, we'll see.
I hope you guys all had fun gettin together, did Kan Kan see you all too, who got to go, what'd you do? Anybody sticking with their morning practice? I haven't yet but I know I will, I'll kick myself enough to do it!
Love you all
PS Marni I for sure will get you that info from AmeriCorps
lol

Parasites anyone?? :)

so, to test weather or not i have parasites, the health center gave me a little brown bag with 2 test tubes, a tongue depressor plastic gloves, and a plastic cup...... the mission: to poo in the cup, scoop the poo into the test tubes up to the indicated line, shake them up (they are filled with liquid) then lable them, with how firm your poo was, the date and time, etc... sure, ok i did it. but not just once, i had to go through the whole process 3 times. man it is one stinky buisness looking for parasites i'm telling you. i don't know if it was worth it or if i should just let the little fucker's trive with in me,
i'll let you all know if i have a intestinal worm named herbert or not. Am i going to be a mother?
-Heidi

how's the tattoo??

Hey azul,
hey i was wondering how your extra days on the cayes went?? also, how the fuck are the tattoos? did the pigment set in, or did the salt water wash it off? i have to send those videos to you and everyone, and post pictures, so if anyone knows how they should let me know!

love you all, Heidi

YOU GUYS!!!!! PUT YOUR PICTURES UP!!!!

Saturday, March 15, 2008

So I don't know what the hell is going on with this freaking blog but don't post anything on the other one I just created when I was trying to find this one and couldn't. I thought I deleted it but I found it, yeah!!!
Gibnut, load your freakin pictures up on picasa web online albums, you can link all of us to them via this blog in a post to us all.  Download picasa, it's free from google, we have far too many to post them all on one page, not enough memory, aren't you the computer nerd, oh yeah that was your friend, love you too by the way, how the f is ireland?

MARN'S HAPPY BIRTHDAY YOU BIG 22 YEAR OLD YOU!!!  I hope you get to hang with some of our tribe on YOUR DAY!! Take care hun,

I like the idea of a quote page, you guys have access to personalize this blog, let's see it ya'll!!!

These Blogs kinda feel like check-ins, where we can have the talking stick when ever we want!

Where are we?? What the hell is going on? The dust has only just begun to form crop circles in the carpet, sinking feeling....
-Imogen Heap
Hey the Jodster, how do we start a Music list, because that's pretty much the only thing I can connect to right now. I MISS YOU GUYS!!!! and I miss the rainforest. I feel like going back to that mud we so often cursed and apologizing to it, then rolling around in it. Honestly, I love California, but damn the jungle was so fucking cool! My mind feels like a commercial break on TV, way too many things going through it right now. I'm so not down with the stress of living in the states...
Anyways, that trip was a trip. I agree with Marns, it feels like a dream. I don't think I actually realized I was leaving Belize until I was on the plane and the plane started speading up, preparing for take-off, and all those palm trees started going by faster and faster... Only then did it hit me that those trees were staying put, and it was I who would leave them...
Remember the caves? Coming out of the pitch black darkness into this clear golden light and green ferns and dirt? Well right now, I kinda feel like I'm still in the cave, I'm a little disoriented and I'm having a hard time focusing on any one thing, and I know the light is there - I know I'll adjust eventually - but I'm not quite there yet.

Marni, are you going to be in SC for your Bday on the 15th??

Gib, how the fuck is ireland????

Hayley and Jenna, how is Guatemala??

I love you guys oh so much and I miss you all terribly.
Check out the Fiona Apple version of Across the Universe and think of the Bladen:

"Words are flowing out like endless rain into a paper cup,
They slither while they pass they slip away across the universe.
Pools of sorrow, waves of joy are drifting through my open mind,
Possessing and carressing me.

Jai Guru Deva Ohm
Nothings gonna change my world...

Images of broken light which dance before me like a million eyes
They call me on and on across the universe.
Thoughts meander like a restless wind inside a letter box
They tumble blindly as they make their way across the universe.

Jai Guru Deva Ohm
Nothings gonna change my world...

Sounds of laughter, shades of Earth are ringing through my opened ears
Insighting and inviting me.
Limitless undying live which shines around me like a million suns
And calls me on and on across the universe.

Jai Guru Deva Ohm
Nothings gonna change my world...

WHAT THE FUCK!

jodi, I thought you were going to be useful and makes something that we can put our pictures on... you are worthless... I dont care whats going on in everyones life!

- gibnut

p.s. i love you guys

Wednesday, March 12, 2008

Hey you guys!

I'm so glad/proud this was put together, props to you the jodster! It makes me feel really good that we have a place to continue our amazing journeys together. I agree with everything said, it's so weird being back... almost like I never left, but I know I did. I'm just waiting to get back to the west coast, Texas is super strange. Marn's I had the same feeling with all the plastic wrappings too! ha We are incredibley sanitary here, it blows my mind. I'm loving listening to music though, and doing yoga classes. So good for me ;)

How do we add all our pics?

Here's a good one for the time being, with ours truly...
"Don't destroy anything until you learn about it" ~Burton

How are the poops?

Hey kids,

Definitely pretty weirded out by being out of the jungle. But what does out of the jungle actually mean, right? I say we can all have our jungle wherever we happen to be. I know that when i'm in Santa Cruz i'm going to find the largest pile of mud to hike through in order to get to class =) Whose with me here? But seriously, I miss you guys a lot and right now the past 9 weeks does feel like the best dream ever! But better than that, I have to keep telling myself, Marni, it was real...the best dream was REAL...then i say, right on, it was!
As the days pass, (and soon it will be a week that I've been "home") I definitely am seeing signs of how this experience has changed me. I just cringe whenever i see a huge SUV (one of my neighbor's has THREE, isn't that insane!) or how everything is just bundled in plastic and everytime i throw ANYTHING away...i feel like i'm committing a crime! I just want that laid bake lifestyle of living in the bush along the river, nothing beats that! Well i'm just rambling a bit here, obviously my thoughts are even less coherent than i thought, but i kind of like them that way (at least for now).

Oh yea, my second full day at home i took a nap with the sun shining down on me on the hard wood deck...i miss those palapas guys ;)

Here's another Burton quote
"365 days in the year and I've only heard of one good Friday."

Can we get a quote page going on here like the book/movie list?

i bet you all smell.......................good now

hey dudes,
wow , me figuring this thing out as a computer illiterate person is a testament to how much i love you all. dude.. i guess i am really glad to hear that all of you feel the same as i do with these crazy adjustments coming back to this crazy life. My mind constantly drifts back to my experiences there with you guys. i feel like i have changed a lot since i left. i came home feeling way more independent, but at the same time craving to reconnect with the people around me. man, i guess i can't even really express how much you have all meant to me. and i didn't even realize how much Belize changed me till i got back.
indi - ellie and i had a crazy experience coming back also, with a crazy Portuguese taxi driver all pissed off and some weird guy running the hotel we stayed at. we just look at each other and said ' we've entered the twilight zone'
but you know, I'll be up here in Humboldt for support :0 so you guys have to come visit me .. hehe
love you all,
heidi
I'm sooo excited to see all of your beautiful words up here on our page. I'm soo glad to have found something we all can keep in touch with because I need all of your insights to keep on going on the path that Belize and you all showed me.  It's so easy to get back into the "normal" way of doing things like "to go" containers and plastic bags, oh I need to get out of this way of doing things.  Ceiba your quote from Burton will never be lost now! Thank you for posting a few words of his abundant wisdom!
OK everyone get those pictures up on the web
Love you all
Hey Everybody

Coming back has been a total mind trip, i dont think i really appreciated Belize as much as i should have until i crossed the border and saw things like shopping malls and Macdonald's and streetlights. Traveling through Mexico was pretty hard because i don't really speak Spanish, but i somehow managed to make it from bus to bus with only a few close calls and random army checkpoints. I haven't even seen my family yet, i just took a bus from Texas to LA, and am visiting my friend here for a day. We went to Hollywood and that was a complete culture shock that I was way unprepared for. I'm having trouble adjusting to the way of life back here, and i miss you gals all so much. Well everyone who took pictures should put them up so i can look at them and cry. Just Kidding. Sorta.

-Indi

Back in the world of redwoods and flush toilets

EMKCCPQMHQ

ˇHello my beautiful Sierra-lings!Ø

I am thinking of you all often, and surprised by how quickly my memories have turned dream-like.

I trust everyone is well.

I am still searching for words to describe my feelings upon arriving 'home'.... I will be sure to let you all know when I settle on something satisfactory, and I hope to hear each of your respective reintegration experiences as well.

For now, happy trails to each of you, wherever you may be! Your voices and laughter ring in my ears and my heart.

Alright my missed sierra trekkers, this is what I've got so far. I wanted to get going on this as soon as possible and it would've been sooner but instead of importing my pictures to Matt's computer I imported his entire library on his computer, (ooops, total beginner move) so I had to fix that as well as at his school internet access is shoddy.  I'm still learning about this blog space but from what i understand visitors who have access can edit and post at will.
